God Bless Chaplain Jenks.
There is power in prayer but the thought of being "better off" may or may not apply, or a least appear for the moment to be better off.

The Word of God teaches that we have this confidence in him that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: And we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desire of him. 1John5:14-15

So one can surmize that if God's will for our life is to lead us through turbulent times to bring us where he wants us to be, it may not seem that we are in the best situation. I can't help but consider Joseph. He went through difficult times only to admit to his brothers, that they meant all that they had done to him for evil, but God meant it for good. Genesis 50:20. Would we agree Joesph's life did not appear to be better off?

Let us consider the greatest example.... Christ; He prayed, "nevertheless not my will be done but thine?" God's will for Christ was that He despise the shame and contradiction of sinners- that we might know His righteousness. Sometimes God's will for our life may not appear for the moment, that we are better off.
